Ordering Information

Ordering Instructions for Individual Customers

Within the United States and Canada

The only way to buy books directly from Penn Press is right here through our online shopping cart. You may access the shopping cart at any time in the upper righthand corner of the website. To find books you are interested in, you can use our navigation menus to browse by subject, series, or imprint, or you can use our search function on the righthand side of the menu bar. Once you are on a book’s page, you can add print editions (hardcover or paperback) of the book to the cart by using the “Buy” button. From the shopping cart, you can complete the checkout process by filling out your billing and shipping information as instructed.

Orders through the cart are then fulfilled by Ingram Publisher Services, our domestic distributor. To inquire about an order you have placed through the Penn Press website, contact Ingram by email at IndiePubsSupport@ingramcontent.com.

Please do not attempt to submit orders via email, fax, phone, or any method other than our website shopping cart. To safeguard your credit card information, book orders must be placed online through our secure shopping cart.

Shipping charges and sales tax will be calculated in the shopping cart and added to the cost of the books themselves. Orders typically arrive within 5-10 days.

Please note that, for orders to Canada filled by IPS, the customer is the importer of record and will be responsible to pay the carrier (when contacted) for any applicable taxes and duties before delivery is made. Failure to pay such charges may prevent delivery of the shipment. Credit will not be issued for shipments that are not delivered due to non-payment of taxes and duties.

Ebooks: Unfortunately, our shopping cart does not currently support the sale of ebook formats. Many other vendors sell our books in ebook format, and each book page includes links to these potential options under the text that reads “Ebooks may be available from.”

Returns: Should you choose to return an item, you will be eligible for a full refund of the purchase price and applied taxes, but you will be responsible for the cost of return shipping. These conditions apply: books must be undamaged and in salable, like-new condition. If the books you receive are not as ordered, or if your shipment arrives damaged, you will be eligible for a full refund of the purchase price, applied taxes, and original shipping cost if you return the items within 30 days of their receipt. You will nonetheless be responsible for the cost of return shipping. Ship returns, postpaid, to this address:

Ingram Publisher Services
Attn: Returns
201 Ingram Drive
Roseburg, OR 97471

Be sure to include the original packing slip.

Once your returned items are received, inspected, and approved, refunds will be processed to the credit card used in the original purchase. Please note that it may take your credit card issuer 4-6 weeks to refund your account.

Within the Americas (Outside of the United States and Canada)

Unfortunately, at this time our shopping cart is unable to process orders shipping to countries in the Americas (North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean) other than the United States and Canada. Customers in these countries may still find our books on many popular online retailers.

Outside of the Americas

If you reside outside of the Americas, we encourage you to order directly from our overseas distributor, Combined Academic Publishers. To place an order through CAP, search for the Penn Press titles you are interested in on the CAP website and complete your purchase there. In some cases, you can also navigate to CAP from the Penn Press website—many books’ pages include a button with a link to buy the ebook edition from CAP on the book’s product page, under the text reading “Ebooks may be available from.”

Orders shipping to addresses throughout the U.K., Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia/New Zealand will be supplied from the Marston Book Services warehouse, near Oxford, U.K. To inquire about orders shipping outside of the Americas, contact Marston customer services.

Journal Subscription Terms

Ordering Information: Prepayment of subscription orders is required. Orders may be charged to MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express. Checks and money orders should be made payable to “University of Pennsylvania Press” and include the title of the publication and volume number or year in the memo/note area.

To place an order (for journals except Dissent and the Journal for the History of Ideas), send payment in full to:

Penn Press
Attn. Journals
3905 Spruce St.
Philadelphia, PA 19104

Agency Discount: Subscription agents receive a 5% discount on both print and electronic-only orders. Discounts do not apply to postage or to orders submitted at the individual rate.

Journal Subscription Rates: Subscription rates include print and online versions of the journal when available. We also offer electronic-only subscriptions by IP address range. Subscription and single-issue prices are denominated in U.S. dollars.

Individual Subscriptions: Individual rates apply only when a subscription is for individual use and when delivery is made directly to the end user. Agencies may place orders at the individual rate provided issues are shipped directly to the individual subscriber. Post office box addresses or agency reshipper addresses used for consolidation purposes are ineligible for individual-rate subscriptions. Agency discounts do not apply to individual subscription orders.

International Shipping: Please add $21 to all orders shipping to non-U.S. addresses.

Fulfillment Cycle: All subscriptions run from January 1 through December 31 of any given year, except for Dissent, which has rolling subscriptions, and Nova Religio, which is on an academic year calendar. Orders received after October 31 become effective the following January 1 unless indicated otherwise by the customer. Orders placed before October 31 receive all of the year’s issues in print at that time and then all subsequent issues as each is published.

Online Hosting: All journals are hosted on the Project MUSE platform. Institutional access relies on IP authentication which should be provided at purchase. As of February 2023, users can log in directly through the Project MUSE platform to access content (previously we required log in through the Penn Press site).

Renewal Notices: Renewal notices for institutions not included with agency orders received prior to January 2023 will be sent to the end user, not the agency.

Claims: Requests for replacement copies because of nonreceipt must arrive within six months (U.S.) and nine months (overseas) of publication date or date of order, whichever comes later. In all other cases the single-issue price will be charged for replacement issues.

Tax: Orders are not subject to sales tax or Canadian Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Refunds/Cancellations: Institutional subscription orders, whether through an agency or direct, are regarded as final and may not be cancelled after the first issue is mailed unless it is a duplicate subscription. In all cases, single-issue orders are nonreturnable and nonrefundable. No exceptions will be made to this policy.
