Paul’s Pick: Religious Liberty in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Every month, Paul Chase in the Penn Press Journals department invites our blog readers to download a complimentary article from one of our many scholarly journals.

Magic Ritual and WitchcraftPaul's pick for December, The Politics of Article 18: Religious Liberty in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Linde Lindkvist, appears in the Winter 2013 issue of Humanity. Lindkvist describes how Article 18, part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted over 65 years ago, reflects very particular political and intellectual currents in the postwar moment. According to Lindkvist, "Article 18 was not the result of some abstract overlapping consensus but rather a triumph for a few actors to whom its details mattered."
