Three Penn Press Titles Join Open Journal Collective

Three journals from the University of Pennsylvania Press will participate in the 2026 Open Journals Collective (OJC), an initiative that enables stakeholders to collectively fund Diamond Open Access (OA) journals, meaning journals published with no charges to readers or authors.

As recently announced by the Open Journals Collective, the Journal of Disaster Studies, Manuscript Studies, and Pasados: Recovering Histories, Imagining Latinidad, will be among the almost 300 DOAJ-approved Diamond Open Access journals seeking funding through this initiative.

Through the OJC offer, the journals seek funding to cover their annual costs, which include graduate assistant support, typesetting, copyediting, and publishing services from Penn Press.

Designed as a scalable and viable alternative to commercial “big deals,” OJC offers libraries a streamlined pathway to support a diverse ecosystem of diamond open-access journals without the administrative overhead of managing hundreds of individual agreements. Visit OJC’s website for more information about the various ways that libraries can support a community-driven and academy-owned model for scholarly communication.

In the United States: The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) and its NERL licensing program serve as the primary billing agent, allowing members to participate with no additional consortial fees. In the United Kingdom: Libraries can easily sign up via Jisc’s Licence Subscriptions Manager, ensuring the investment process is integrated into existing library workflows. In the rest of the world: Libraries are invited to contact OJC directly by email, memberships@openjournalscollective.org. OJC is able to conveniently invoice in multiple currencies.
