The Press was saddened to learn of
the passing last Thursday of Robert McNeil, Jr., whose philanthropic
activities made such a positive contribution to the cultural
institutions of Philadelphia. A beneficiary of his interest in the
history of early America and the Philadelphia area, the Press is
particularly grateful to him for making possible the publication of the
ongoing book series Early American Studies and several other works of
lasting importance to the city and region, including the three books by
Roger Moss with photographs by Tom Crane, Historic Houses of
Philadelphia, Historic Sacred Places of Philadelphia, and Historic
Landmarks of Philadelphia.
