James Smith Allen

A social and cultural historian of modern France, James Smith Allen is Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University. His seven books concern French women and gender. His latest work is an edition of Éliane Brault's In the Shadow of the Swastika (Routledge 2026) on France’s defeat and occupation in 1940.
