The Press supports multiple modes of Open Access including those below:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Platinum\/Diamond Open Access <\/strong>(fully funded by a sponsor)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/foucault-studies\/\">Foucault Studies<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/jewish-quarterly-review\/\">Jewish Quarterly Review<\/a><\/em> (starting in 2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"\/journals\/journal\/journal-of-disaster-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Journal of Disaster Studies<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"\/journals\/journal\/manuscript-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Manuscript Studies<\/em><\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"\/journals\/journal\/observational-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Observational Studies<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"\/journals\/journal\/pasados\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Pasados: Recovering History, Imagining Latinidad<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select journals will participate in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/about.muse.jhu.edu\/muse\/s2o\/\">Project MUSE&#8217;s Subscribe to Open Program<\/a><\/strong> from 2025 to 2027. This program opens current content without article processing charges. The program was successful in 2025; 2025 content from the journals below will remain open in perpetuity. We appreciate the libraries whose support made this possible. Participating journals:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/change-over-time\/\">Change Over Time <\/a><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/early-american-studies\/\">Early American Studies<\/a> <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/eudora-welty-review\/\">Eudora Welty Review<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/french-forum\/\">French Forum<\/a> <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennpress.org\/journals\/journal\/humanity\/\">Humanity: An International Journal of Human Rights, Humanitarianism, and Development<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lyrasis.org\/oacip\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"104\" src=\"https:\/\/dhjhkxawhe8q4.cloudfront.net\/penn-university-press\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/01175804\/OACIP-Logo-2022-e1709317195559.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-684\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Participation in the Open Access Community Investment Program<\/strong> (OACIP). <a href=\"https:\/\/lyrasis.org\/oacip\/\">OACIP<\/a> is a library-based crowdsourcing model to fund Platinum OA journals. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lyrasis.org\/content\/Pages\/product-details.aspx?pid=C5B823A6-61B9-EE11-8112-00155DCF5744\">Foucault Studies<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/dhjhkxawhe8q4.cloudfront.net\/penn-university-press\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/01175644\/OS-OACIP-Info-Sheet.pdf\">Observational Studies<\/a><\/em> received funding for a three-year period from 2025 to 2027. Stakeholders\u2019 investments will provide external copy-editing services and editorial office resources.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Participation in the Open Journals Collective (OJC)<\/strong>. Penn Press participates in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openjournalscollective.org\/\">Open Journals Collective<\/a>, a collective of libraries and university-based publishers committed to Open Access. Funding received through this initiative will provide critical funding for the diamond OA journals <em>Journal of Disaster Studies<\/em>, <em>Manuscript Studies<\/em>, and <em>Pasados<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openjournalscollective.org\/\">Please consider supporting this initiative<\/a>. Read <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/10HgfGPbdxKLGQGcPOfQ1tsCbr3MHDQrC\/view\">the press release<\/a>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gold Open Access<\/strong>. For individual authors who have open-access mandates, please contact Jocelyn Dawson, Director of Journals,&nbsp;at <a href=\"mailto:jmdawson@upenn.edu\">jmdawson@upenn.edu<\/a> to see if the journal in which you wish to publish accepts an article-processing charge (APC) or waiver to free a single article. Our waiver guidelines allow authors from countries classified as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research4life.org\/faq\/group-a-and-group-b\/\">Group A or B by Research4Life<\/a>, to publish their article free of charge if their funding body requires it and the Green Open Access option is insufficient.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Green Open Access<\/strong>. Authors may post the Author\u2019s Accepted Manuscript (AAM) on their personal websites, on noncommercial discipline-specific servers of preprints or postprints, and within noncommercial digital repositories of nonprofit institutions with which they are currently affiliated. The Green Open Access route detailed here is compliant with policies from the US <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neh.gov\/publicaccess\">National Endowment for the Humanities<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/publications\/ukri-open-access-policy\/uk-research-and-innovation-open-access-policy\/\">UK Research and Innovation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coalition-s.org\/addendum-to-the-coalition-s-guidance-on-the-implementation-of-plan-s\/principles-and-implementation\/\">Plan S<\/a> (as of 3 June 2026). The AAM is post-peer review but pre-copyediting and pre-typesetting. Most journals published by Penn Press do not enforce an embargo on the posting of the AAM; please check your author agreement for details. Journal authors may post a link to the Version of Record on Project MUSE or JSTOR when it is available along with source and copyright information. (Authors should post a link to an article rather than post a PDF; article views are an important factor in library purchasing decisions and by encouraging usage on the journal\u2019s hosting platform, you demonstrate the journal\u2019s value.)
